All-American Lacrosse goalie. Honored physics student. Prize-winning adult ice dancer.
Oh, yes, and a Nobel Prize-winner in economics.
At a time when the economy dominates the front pages, and most all of our lives, please join Williams Club members and other alumni and friends for an evening with Robert Engle ’64. Reserve your place before this special event fills up!
Robert Engle is the Michael Armellino professor in Management of Financial Services at the Stern School of Business at NYU and Professor Emeritus and Research Professor at UCSD. In 2003, he shared the Nobel Prize for Economics with Clive W.J. Granger.
Engle graduated from Williams College in 1964 with the highest honors in Physics. While at Williams, he was in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, played in the symphony, was an All-American lacrosse goalie, and was nominated to Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduation, Engle received his MS in Physics and his Ph.D. in Economics at Cornell University.
Engle is highly regarded for his discovery of a method for analyzing unpredictable movements in financial market prices and interest rates. He developed new statistical models of volatility that captured the tendency of stock prices and other financial variables to move between high and low periods. These statistical models have become essential tools of modern asset pricing theory and practice.
Robert Engle is married to Marianne Eger Engle, a successful clinical child and sports psychologist. They have two children, Lindsey Eger Engle and Jordan Engle. |

In the late 18th century, British sailors with the East India Company brought their favorite October-brewed stock bitter ale with them on the long journeys to the Indian subcontinent. The reputation of this pleasantly copper-hewed brew, later known as India Pale Ale, spread with the trade winds to beer connoisseurs worldwide.
Since then, IPAs have been a staple of British pubs and have developed a cult following in the U.S. More recently, these distinctive ales have won wider acceptance among mainstream American beer drinkers. In fact, it’s hard to find any self-respecting nightspot these days without at least one IPA on tap or in the bottle.
This year, a hand-picked selection of IPAs will take center stage at The Harvard Club’s annual beer tasting event. Whether you are a longtime fan or more recent convert, come join us for a fun and frothy tasting of these splendidly bitter ales with a hoppy bite and delicate floral undertones – and set sail for your own “high seas” summer adventure!

Lower East Side Tenement Museum Tour
Saturday, August 15
| TIME |
11:00 am |
| COST |
$12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors |
| DESCRIPTION |
Head to the Lower East Side for an afternoon of learning and exploring at the LES Tenement Museum. The Museum tells the stories of 97 Orchard Street, a tenement apartment building built in 1863 that was home to nearly 7,000 working class immigrants. Though its original inhabitants occupied the space nearly 150 years ago, they faced challenges we understand today: making a new life, working for a better future, and starting a family with limited means.
On Saturday, August 15, we will be taking a private tour of the Museum, focusing mainly on the story of the Confino family, a Sephardic-Jewish family who lived in the building in 1916. A costumed interpreter will play the role of 14 year-old Victoria Confino, taking us on an interactive journey through life in the early 20th century for American Immigrants. The tour lasts about 90 minutes, and is perfect for members, family, and friends of all ages.
The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is located at 108 Orchard St. at Delancey St.
